NORMAN F. LASKAY is currently of counsel with DLS Marine, a full-service marine survey and appraisal company with offices in several major U.S. ports.
 
• A graduate of Maine Maritime Academy
• Sailed as a deck officer on U.S. and foreign flag freighters and worked ashore in ship agency operations
• An independent marine surveyor of hull and machinery for over 45 years
• A member of the Machinery & Technical Specialties Committee of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) for 12 years, where he is now an Emeritus member

 

• Wrote a number of articles on marine equipment valuation for the ASA MTS journal and for the National Association of Marine Surveyors newsletter
• Wrote the current test for the ASA Commercial Marine appraisal specialty examination, and a 24-credit hour ASA course on valuing commercial and recreational marine equipment which he has given around the United States and internationally
• A guest speaker on marine asset appraisal at the International Conference on the Valuation of Plant and Machinery (ICVPME now IVC), meetings in Beijing, China, St. Petersburg, Russia, Tokyo, Japan, Sydney, Australia and Auckland, New Zealand
• Authored the chapter on marine asset appraisal for the current edition of the ASA book, “Valuing Machinery and Equipment”
